Restaurants in Slaton, TX
By D'etta Brown
The small town of Slaton, TX boasts 6,000 people and, surprisingly, more than a handful of places to grab a bite to eat. One of the most popular is the Slaton Bakery. Open six days a week, common fare includes chocolate and glazed dougnnuts, jelly johns, cupcakes, thumbprints, a variety of cookies, apple fritters, assorted meringue and other pies and assorted cakes. They also offer a variety of sandwiches, including tuna and chicken salad, ham, BLT's, etc., with choice of bread (white, wheat, sub, tomato). Grab a cup of coffee, iced tea or cappuccino with breakfast or lunch. The newest restaurant to enter the Slaton economy is Casa de Miguel, a Mexican food restaurant. The queso and salsa are very good, and I recommend the sour cream cilantro enchiladas. Another popular place to eat is JJ's Cafe, which has been featured multiple times in Texas Monthly. They offer your typical diner fare: chicken-fried steak, hamburgers, chicken strips, side vegetables and a salad bar. Klemke's BBQ is another favorite among town dwellers. Pick shredded or chopped BBQ on a bun, and don't forget the pickles, onions and a baked potato. Ma's Steakhouse is a good choice no matter what time of day. For breakfast you could order pancakes, sausage, eggs, oatmeal or biscuits and gravy. For lunch a patty melt is the right choice. And for supper, you can never go wrong with a six-ounce steak and mashed potatoes. Burger Boy is a great place to go for spicy fries. They also offer fish, chicken, hamburgers (the daily special) and frito pies. Slaton also offers several chain options: Sonic Drive-In, Pizza Hut, McDonald's and Dairy Queen. |

Sound tasty, D'etta, but also like a Heart Attack ready to happen. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes. Frederick
